Eiberger, John - Friday
morning of last week, as the Alton freight, a
double-header heavily loaded, was pulling out
east from Wenona, John Eiberger precipitated
himself beneath a freight car and suffered
instant death. He is about sixty years of age,
and this, it is said, was his third attempt at
suicide. He stood by the track until the engine
had passed, carefully contemplating the result;
then seating himself deliberately on the end of
a tie, he threw his head backwards, and a
heavily loaded freight car passed over his body.
His remains were horribly mutilated, and the car
was thrown from the track. He has friends and
relations in Wenona. Mrs. H. Conner is a
daughter. 06 Jun 1885, The Ottawa Free Trader

Young, William - Killed by the Cars. Wenona
Index, Ill., July 26. -- On Saturday morning
last a dispatch was received in Wenona
announcing that Wm. Young, the well digger, had
been killed by the cars, at Griswold the night
before. Billy moved to Griswold from Wenona a
few months ago and reports indicated that he had
been getting along very nicely. The supposition
is that Billy had laid down on the railroad
track and the train passed over him causing
instant death. Funeral services were held on
Sunday, and the burial took place at Chatsworth.
