Santa Rosa (Cal.) Daily Republican.
Clemens Gould died at his home on
upper Fourth street Monday morning, August 21st. Death was the result of
heart disease, and came unexpectedly after an illness of only a few hours.
The deceased was apparently in excellent health at the time of retiring
Sunday evening, but was stricken with a violent illness at about 2 o'clock.
Consciousness passed from him in a short time and was never regained, death
resulting at 7 o'clock. A widow, two sons and a daughter survive the
deceased. Then sons are H. O. Gould, a civil engineer in the government
employ at Pittsburg, and W. C. Gould, cashier of the national bank at Lamar,
Colorado. The daughter is Mrs. DeLazier, formerly of Winsor, but now of
Northport, Washington.
Clemens Gould was a native of Illinois, and
passed most of his life in that state. He was for many years a prominent
municipal officer of Henry, serving as a member of the city council,
director of the Henry City Bridge Co., and also member of the school board.
With his wife he came to this city 11 years ago. His age was 65 years. Mrs.
R. F. Crawford, wife of Judge Crawford, is a sister of the deceased.
The remains were interred in Odd Fellows' cemetery Wednesday morning. The
funeral services were conducted at the late residence of the deceased on
Fourth street, and were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends.
Rev. William Martin and Rev. W. L. Gaston officiated. The choristers who
rendered the funeral music were Miss Florence Rutledge, Mrs. W. F. Cowan,
Dr. Anderson and John G. Cochrane, and the following friends of the deceased
served as his pallbearers: R. C. Moodey, W. A. Rose, R. M. Swain, W. E.
McConnell, J. Parsons and O. Fountain.
